Each year, June 25 marks the IMO’s Day of the Seafarer, where we recognise and thank to seafarers for their great work. This day helps raise awareness about the invaluable and hard work they do, and their contribution to global and local economies.
Here in the Philippines, the day has very special meaning, since Filipinos make up the bulk of Marlow’s crew. In fact, the Philippines is also the biggest supplier of seafarers on all international merchant ships, making up around 20 per cent of global share.
At Marlow in Manila, a Seafarer’s Day Trade Fair was organised, with all office staff, together with many crew members and trainees, as well as local office partners such as Medical Clinics, Insurance providers and banks joined in on the celebration. The entire day was filled with fun and games, raffles and music.
Other Marlow branch offices in Cebu, Davao and Iloilo also celebrated the day by posting banners and joining in on events organised by Philippines' Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in their respective locations.
