Marlow Celebrating the annual IMO Day of the Seafarer in the Philippines, June 2019

Each year, June 25 marks the IMO’s Day of the Seafarer, where we recognise and thank to seafarers for their great work. This day helps raise awareness about the invaluable and hard work they do, and their contribution to global and local economies.

Here in the Philippines, the day has very special meaning, since Filipinos make up the bulk of Marlow’s crew. In fact, the Philippines is also the biggest supplier of seafarers on all international merchant ships, making up around 20 per cent of global share.

At Marlow in Manila, a Seafarer’s Day Trade Fair was organised, with all office staff, together with many crew members and trainees, as well as local office partners such as Medical Clinics, Insurance providers and banks joined in on the celebration. The entire day was filled with fun and games, raffles and music.

Other Marlow branch offices in Cebu, Davao and Iloilo also celebrated the day by posting banners and joining in on events organised by Philippines' Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) in their respective locations.

Since the company’s beginnings in 1982 from the maritime hub of Limassol, Marlow Navigation has grown to become a globally renowned and trusted name in the ship management industry. Today, a network spanning 12 countries, with over 1,000 shore-based staff, 15,000 crew on board managed vessels and 32,000 active seafarers in the employment pool, underpins the company’s progress, business sustainability and client-focussed ethos.

Scope of services have over the past four decades broadened to fully-fledged maritime activities, including crew management, full technical ship management, new ship building supervision, finance and administration, crew recruitment, training and safety, and offshore services.

These are provided out of management offices in Limassol, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Mumbai and Hong Kong, together a global network of seafarer recruiting agencies, state-of-the-art maritime academies and international naval training centres.
