National Maritime Week typically focuses on celebrating and recognising the maritime industry’s importance and contributions to the nation’s economy and society at large. During the week, various activities, events, and programs took place to highlight the significance of maritime transportation, trade, and maritime-related careers.
Huge THANKS for the support of all our dear Marlow seafarers who made themselves available to attend these events, as well as our office-based team and families.
The opening ceremony was also made possible through a collaborative effort with the Iloilo City Government, led by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, alongside Hon. Frances Grace Parcon-Torres, and in cooperation with the Meetings Incentives Conferences Exhibitions (MICE) Office and the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc. (IFFI).
Our team celebrated Maritime Week together with various industry and local organisations and associations, including:
- the Seafarers’ Wives Association
- Other NMWC lead agencies and stakeholders, including the Philippine Coast Guard - Western Visayas, the Philippine Ports Authority PMO Panay-Guimaras, and Women in Maritime Philippines - Western Visayas
- Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office VI (OWWA RWO VI), and
- MARINA Regional Office
- A mass at the Jaro Cathedral with commemorative ceremony involving the laying of wreaths and moments of silence to pay tribute and offer prayers for deceased and missing seafarers, followed by a "Walk for a Cause" around the Jaro area, concluding at the Jaro Gymnasium, where the opening program took place, and
- Orientation of programs and services as well as workshops for seafarers by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office, focussing on wellbeing at sea, family support, and financial awareness and planning.
