We would like to take a moment and extend thanks to our outgoing General Manager, Captain Alfred von der Hoeh for his many years’ representation and devotion at The International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC) as Member of the Board.

Captain von der Hoeh first joined IMEC meetings as Marlow’s representative for industrial relations back in 2004. Over the years, he has been instrumental in the many successes of IMEC around the world, including with various training initiatives, as well as participating in several key negotiations with the unions, both in local markets and internationally.

“For over 50 years, IMEC has been the primary organisation for maritime human resources and support of seafarer welfare, promoting good employment practices, as well as high standards of training and safety. One of the organisation’s key strengths is in its unity, backed by the weight of a large section of the industry, which allows it to effectively negotiate collective bargaining agreement worldwide,” said Captain Alfred von der Hoeh.

“It has been a privilege to represent Marlow here at IMEC and be involved in its many achievements in helping to enhance the crew recruitment and management sector,” he added.

Marlow continues to be an active member of IMEC. On the same occasion, it is our pleasure to announce and congratulate Marlow’s Training Director, Joern Clodius for his recent election as Chairman at IMEC, Recruitment and Training committee. We are sure Joern will play a key role in helping to promote and enhance maritime training and development, as well as to attract new talent to the industry.

Established over fifty years ago, IMEC is the only international employers’ organisation dedicated to maritime industrial relations representing over 250 members located all over the world which operate almost 12,000 ships and employ over 300,000 seafarers of all nationalities.

Members are individual shipping companies, both owners and managers, large and small, operating all types of ships including dry bulk, container, cruise liners, livestock carriers, reefers and tankers while the ships they operate are registered in more than 60 different countries.

IMEC also takes an active role in the training and future employment of seafarers, running a cadet training programme on behalf of its members at the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), in the Philippines, and now also at Kherson State Maritime Academy in Ukraine.
