Marlow Navigation and Kherson State Maritime Academy (KSMA) have extended their long-standing partnership for the education and training of marine professionals in Ukraine.

As part of the annual agreement, Marlow commits to the training of more than 100 cadets from the Academy and the professional college to the Academy for 2022; financial support for twenty-five cadets from underprivileged families, and in cooperation with the KSMA students’ council, to arrange further charitable support to cadets and faculty who are in difficult life circumstances.

“We at Marlow are committed to continue our part for the mutual benefit of all parties involved. Therefore, as an industry partner to the Academy, we are signing today the extension of our cooperation agreement,” stated Joint Managing Director, Marlow Navigation, Jan Meyering.

“In view of past excellent achievements and as a sign of our belief in the people of Ukraine, we have agreed and are committed to a long-term cooperation that will surely benefit the Academy in the years ahead,” added Meyering.

Another agreement between KSMA and the International Maritime Employers' Council (IMEC) was concluded for the expansion of IMEC’s cadet training programme in Ukraine. This collaboration will generate additional career opportunities for KSMA cadets, essentially doubling Marlow’s annual intake, providing access to training berths on board some of the fifteen thousand merchant ships that IMEC members operate. At the same time, this agreement opens new horizons for the development of the Academy, further strengthening its position as the best maritime institution in the country.

This KSMA-IMEC initiative is very much possible due to the existing strong and fruitful partnership of Marlow and KSMA, which over the last 15 years has established the vital groundwork for high quality training and development of marine professionals in Ukraine, the industry’s third-biggest labour supply region.

Significantly, this has successfully nurtured the career of a generation of merchant marine officers, with a substantial number of young cadets who took their first steps back in 2007 already now very proud captains and chief engineers on board the Marlow crew managed ships. In fact, since the first year of cooperation, almost 1,300 cadets from KSMA have joined the Marlow fleet, whilst over 300 Management Level Officers and Engineers from the training programme are presently serving on board.
