The future of maritime talent took centre stage in January, as Marlow Navigation Poland joined the first-ever Maritime Careers Fair at Gdynia Maritime University (GMU), engaging with the next generation of seafarers and industry professionals.

Marlow participated in the fair to offer students insights into the company’s crew recruitment and placement operations, as well as its various career, training and internship opportunities.

“This was a very successful event for us, where we spoke to many young candidates who were enthusiastic and interested in the attractive opportunities we have available, especially considering the extent and diversity of our crew managed fleet, global presence, and training and career progression programmes,” stated Marlow’s Managing Director in Poland, Piotr Masny. “The fair provided an excellent opportunity to introduce students to these exciting and rewarding pathways.”

“Overall, it was a very promising experience and we look forward to attending more such events here in Poland to promote our industry and further attract new talent to our company,” he added.

The Maritime Careers Fair in Gdynia attracted a large number of students, eager to explore exciting seagoing opportunities with leading companies such as Marlow. Open to students of all maritime degree programmes, particularly targeted at 2nd and 3rd year students, it aimed to bring the industry closer, and in a designated space that allowed them to meet in person and better familiarise with the many career and development prospects available.

“I would like to warmly thank all those who contributed to the success of the Maritime Careers Fair,” said the University’s Director of Maritime Operations Department, Captain Dariusz Jellonek in a statement. “The many students who took advantage of the opportunity to speak to company representatives show that the first-ever such event held at GMU was a big success.”

“The turnout exceeded even our wildest expectations, with a few hundred students of maritime degree programmes at GMU taking time out of their busy schedules to attend. The popularity and positive feedback we have received from the employers involved, as well as the students, means this first GMU Maritime Careers Fair will certainly not be the last,” he added.

Gdynia Maritime University (GMU) is the largest state school of higher maritime education in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. Since 1920, the University has been preparing graduates for officer positions on board merchant marine vessels and managerial positions at the land-based institutions and companies representing the maritime industry and coastal regions. The University’s four Faculties offer degrees in Navigation, Management and Quality Science, Marine Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Over 5,000 students are currently enrolled at the University.

The study programmes satisfy both Polish educational standards as outlined by the Ministry of Education as well as the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The new strategy for further growth and development adopted by the Senate of Gdynia Maritime University will ensure the strengthening of the University’s role as an internationally recognised marine-oriented centre of study and training for professionals – citizens of the World.
