Ahead of this year’s Maritime Cyprus conference, Marlow says stability and flexibility are what have helped to respond to today’s key issues in shipping.

Maritime Cyprus Conference 2022, Limassol, Cyprus

Stability and flexibility are the key messages at Marlow during this year’s Maritime Cyprus Conference, taking place 9-12 October in Limassol.

The conference operates as a forum where important and current issues relating to international shipping are presented by expert speakers and subsequently discussed by the international shipping community and local cluster. This year’s theme is “Shipping’s Response to the 3 Cs” – Crises, Challenges, Competitiveness.

“It is both our stability and flexibility which helps us to continue responding to today’s key issues. Our stability as an organisation, global network and resources, ensures we can continue to provide the reliable and quality services our partners know and expect. Meanwhile, being flexible allows us to better tailor our approach in a fast-changing landscape,” stated Joint Managing Director, Marlow Navigation, Andreas Neophytou.

“Indeed, we must always be ready to adapt to change, if not drive it. We remain fully committed to modernisation in shipping, responsive to new digital technologies, environmental best practices and the continued training and development of our people, both at sea and ashore,” continued Neophytou.

Technology is of course playing a major part in this ongoing transformation, as well as the company’s wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy. The company is opening a new fleet control centre to monitor and optimise the performances of vessels under technical management. Meanwhile with crew training, Marlow pivoted with its expansion of remote learning to better reach and support seafarers, introducing a host of new online courses and digital initiatives, moving thousands of seafarers, cadets, and instructors online.

The same holds true with the newly improved mobile application for seafarers, CrewCompanion. The App streamlines channels of communication and stores essential documents and information in the one secure place. This enhances organisation and interaction between seafarers and their base ashore, supporting them in their work and day-to-day life. To date, the App has 15K + active users worldwide.

“Though the technology is critical, as an industry we should also not neglect to continue promoting the importance of the human element. They remain central to our business, and together with the technology, we can provide both a modernised and personalised approach to ship management,” concluded Neophytou.

Maritime Cyprus is an established biennial event organised by the Shipping Deputy Ministry in cooperation with the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and the Cyprus Union of Shipowners. The conference brings together more than 1,000 participants from all over the world to become better acquainted with the strong maritime cluster here in Limassol, including shipowners, shipping executives, regulators and state officials.

Marlow Navigation is exhibiting at Stand 25 this year.
