Held Shipping and Marlow Navigation organised a two-day seminar for senior officers at Kherson State Maritime Academy (KSMA) in Ukraine in July.

Held Shipping and Marlow Navigation gathered senior officers for a two-day seminar at KSMA, Ukraine

The seminar began with an opening speech from Rector of KSMA V. Chernyavsky, followed by a safety and organisational briefing. Both companies, Held Shipping and Marlow then presented their main policies, organisational structure and developments, and acquainted participants with latest industry trends.

A number of current issues were covered during the seminar, including OCIS – Held Shipping’s new Safety Management System, new port state control regime, risk assessments and incident reporting together with active case studies, as well as general technical issues, followed by Q&A and an open discussion.

“We extend our appreciation to Held Shipping for organising this seminar for our senior officers in Ukraine and to KSMA for hosting the event and creating a special atmosphere. Such events are extremely valuable in furthering crew’s knowledge about the company, procedures and best practices, and of course in building an even closer relationship between our crew and shipping clients,” states Joint Managing Director, Marlow Navigation, Jan Meyering.

An official dinner was held at a restaurant on the banks of River Dnieper where long-serving Marlow seafarers were also recognised and awarded with their loyalty watches. Meanwhile on the second day of the seminar, a tour of KSMA and its training centre was arranged for delegates. Training facilities and simulators with tailor-made solutions received high appraisal by the client.

“We thank Marlow and the team in Ukraine for this well organised seminar and for providing many good ideas on how to structure the event and provide most value to participants, and of course to all senior officers for attending and being actively involved,” commented COO, Held Shipping, Jan Held. “Due to its success, we have decided to arrange such a seminar on a regular basis,” he added.

Attending the seminar from Held Shipping were – COO Jan Held, DPA Janko Blesinski, and TSI Nils Putzke and from Marlow’s head office in Cyprus, Crew Superintendent Radostin Petrov, as well as Deputy Crewing Director Igor Kolosov and Senior Operator Andrey Chernyshev from Marlow Ukraine.

Special praise must also be given to Marlow Ukraine’s Kherson branch colleagues for their excellent organisation and coordination of this event.
