The opening ceremony of the regatta took place at the University’s sailing complex, with a special performance put on by the MSU orchestra. All participants and guests were welcomed and congratulated by Rector S. A. Ogai, General Director, Marlow Navigation Vladivostok, Dmitry Shchadin, and Vice-Governor of Primorsky Krai Konstantin Mezonov.
In perfect weather conditions, the regatta was held in full format and consisted of a one mile rowing race, four sailing races, a combined race and a five mile cruising race. The competition was attended by crew of 11 yawls, nine from the University plus two guest teams, including students from Pacific High Navy University named after Admiral S. O. Makarov and a children's team Scarlet Sails from Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
Since last year, the race Challenge Cup has been renamed in honour of Evgeniy Zhukov, a highly acclaimed teacher at the University and a passionate sailor. This year’s champions were the cadets from the Engine Department, who were presented with certificates, medals and gifts by Marlow’s representative Captain Petr Shchadin.
On a ‘lighter’ note, the traditional tug of war competition was also held on the reserve day, with winners also presented with prizes, meanwhile all guests were treated to drinks and cakes donated by Marlow.
