Marlow Navigation’s long-term assistance for schools in the Philippines continued in 2018, supported by shipowners, seafarers and colleagues.

This follows initial aid to help with the school rebuilding projects after Super Typhoon Yolanda, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded, devastated portions of Southeast Asia in 2013, particularly the Philippines.

“We are glad to be able to continue our support of these schools and local communities here in the Philippines and help enhance the environment for the students to assist in their education,” stated Chairman, Marlow Navigation, Mr Hermann Eden, who visited in February to discuss and implement the initiative. “We thank all our partners who helped with this initiative, and Marlow Philippines for being so actively involved in the logistics and implementation process.”

Aid included a new library building for one of the schools, complete water system at a couple of the schools, as well as donations of many facilities, such as desktop computers, laptops, printers, furnishing for rooms/library, LED TVs, split air-conditioning units, as well as school bags and other supplies for the children.

Schools receiving support included Estancia Central Elementary School, Canoan Elementary School, Hacienda Conchita, Puente Bunglas, Libertad Elementary School, Maya Elementary School, San Jose Elementary School, and Madridejos Elementary School.

For some of the schools, the “Adopt a Ship Program”, an initiative of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), was also proposed and will be introduced, providing students with additional opportunities to learn about the global shipping industry during geography classes.
