Hapag-Lloyd conducted its first ever crew conference for Marlow Navigation seafarers towards the end of last year. The event was held on November 29 at United Marine Training Center (UMTC) premises in Manila, with around 100 participants.
"Looking back to our crew conference and social event, we want to thank you (Marlow and UMTC) once more for your very kind hospitality, the time you spent with us and your amicability. We really appreciated everything for helping to make the event so successful," stated Senior Training and Education Manager, Hapag-Lloyd AG, Mr Erik Hirsch.
During the conference, Mr Hirsch, together with Crew Manager, Mr Andreas Niehage delivered a presentation about Hapag-Lloyd, where they also discussed the company’s merger with Compañía Sudamericana de Vapores and the planned merger with United Arab Shipping Company, looking at projected output and benefits from synergies.
During the conference, presentations were also provided by Senior Crewing Manager, Captain Francis Noel Acero, and Mr Donald Bautista, Training Director about Marlow Philippines and UMTC, respectively, as well as by Hapag-Lloyd’s Training Officer Cristhom Setubal on the company’s trainee programme and the on-board training experience.
Finally, Crew Personnel Manager from Marlow Navigation’s corporate head office in Cyprus, Mr Joern Clodius talked about Hapag-Lloyd‘s development and loyalty programme, Marlow accident/incident report, customer complaints and requirements, and presented an animation video to better educate seafarers on the potential risks of the Internet and social media.
"This conference was an excellent opportunity to present important information to our Filipino crew about each company and their training programmes, as well as to raise awareness on best practices as a seafarer," commented Clodius. The event included team-building exercise and a cocktail dinner with awards presented to long-serving Marlow and Hapag-Lloyd crew.
